Aloha, WarriorBabes! My name is Jen, I’m 45-years-old, and I live on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. I started with WarriorBabe about a year ago, I just had my one-year anniversary. Yay me! And honestly, I had no idea what to expect when I got started, as I had tried every program under the sun before. I have quite an extensive background in exercise, I started at eight-years-old with Jane Fonda, and then as time went on, I went to, you know, treadmills and ellipticals, and then as I got into college and things of that nature, I started working out at home doing “Power 90” and “Turbo Jam,” and there was one, oh my gosh, the kickboxing one, ah. So that was a cool one, too. I mean, so many workout videos. Geez, what else did I do? “T25,” “Insanity,” I mean, I’ve had other personal trainers train me, so you name it, I have tried it. In the way of diet, I always kind of steered toward paleo and low-carb thinking, of course, like so many of us do, that carbs are bad and that we need to limit them and they make us gain weight. So, yeah, so that’s my kind of history, lots of workout videos. When I met my husband, I had over 50 workout DVDs. That is not a lie. Literally, I had 50 workout DVDs. So, definitely someone that has done it all. So, last year I was working out, and I had just come off of a couple years of doing CrossFit, and then I decided I wanted to do something more low impact, so I was doing Pilates and bar, and I was having fun with those, and while I felt like I was moving my body good and feeling good in my body, I was actually not losing any weight at all, and I was kind of plateaued hard at like 155, and I knew that I needed to lose about, you know, 15, 20 pounds, and I knew that it was my diet that was the problem. So, hearing in the CrossFit circles about macro counting, I was like, “Maybe I should check it out. I don’t know. I’m scared. Maybe I should check it out.” I went back and forth for a while, “Would I be dedicated enough? Would my husband support me? Would he get weird if I wanted to eat differently?” All the things that you think about when you try something new, start something new, all the excuses, right? So I went ahead and I signed up for the program in November. I remember my husband saying, “Do you really want to start before the holidays? Maybe you should start after the holidays.” And I was like, “No way in hell am I starting after the holidays.” That’s like, “Oh, I’ll start on Monday,” right? No, start now! So I started now, and I am so glad I did. I had no idea that I would be successful with this program. I just knew that I needed to learn about food. I knew I needed to learn about the food component, that that was my problem. Exercise was not my problem, I loved it. I love all kinds of movement, but food was, like, just alien to me. I was just like, “What am I doing wrong?” And the modules were so detailed. They lay it out step-by-step. I watched through them once, I started, I mean, you know, I’m not perfect. There was some ugly starts, there was some backslides here and there, and there were mistakes, but I just kept trying, just kept going back to, you know, the modules whenever I needed to. So, if you’re thinking about this program, I highly recommend. You are worth it. You deserve it. I am down 16 pounds and 4.5% body fat. I’m getting ready to do my first build soon, and my body, my digestion, my sleep, all the way around with counting macros has, I think, saved me. So give it a shot. I really feel like it’s worth it, and for me, it is the last stop in my diet and exercise search. I have found my home. Aloha.
